"Over twenty years ago, I visited Israel and by chance had the rare opportunity to spend three days with a family in a Palestinian village. “Letters from Majd el Kurum” is inspired by this brief, spontaneous visit and letters exchanged after it. Five unique collages ruminate on the joy, stretch, and tumult of communication between humans, cultures, and nations. I started this series last spring as the conflict between Israel and its Arab neighbor flared up once again. Each piece represents a letter written to me from my friend in this Palestinian village in !the early 90s. These works are made of layering photographs, sketches and notes from journal pages, and handwritten and typed letters via digital and handmade collage processes."
